These photos of Danny and Mara were taken during the FILM IS NOT DEAD workshop ran by Jonathan Canlas.  Thanks Danny and Mara for modeling for us as an "engaged" couple during the workshop!

For those interested in learning how to shoot more film, Jon has a book due to be released very soon and can be found here.  So happy to have made/met some friends during the workshop and with other previous workshop attendees of FIND.  I have Jon to thank for introducing me to a great group of photographers dedicated to the preservation and use of film.  2011 was HUGE for me, in that I incorporated so much more film into my workflow, business and personal work.  I'm not sure where I would be today if I hadn't started shooting film this year, but it has definitely helped with my vision as a photographer and challenged me in so many ways.  Pumped to shoot more of it during 2012.  Here's to the New Year!  BRING IT!  Here are the behind the scenes look at what went on during the one-day workshop:

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

 

 Christmas is in full swing in the Mercado household and I just thought I'd share some of the small things (and projects my girls worked on) that make this holiday extra special .  Merry Christmas y'all!

It's that time of the year again!

Our annual pilgrimage to Dart's Christmas Tree Farm in the North Fork of Long Island.

We've been chopping down our tree from Dart's every year since Bevs and I have been married, 

so it's no different this year even with the new addition to the family.  Karolina and Lucia took their turns at claiming the smallest tree on the farm, as well as jumping on top of and balancing on any old tree stump.  They are especially loving it now because after we've picked, cut and tied the tree to the car, a jolly old man is waiting there to be greeted.  It is just an all around fun relaxing family day and a simple tradition I hope to keep for a lifetime.  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to my loyal (and disloyal) blogreaders!

David and Liz at Shadow Lawn - Married

Perhaps my most favorite wedding I've documented.  Just so you know...

My apologies for the longer than usual blogpost.

This celebration had all the elements that I love about documenting weddings - a beautiful bride and groom, so MANY real moments to capture, a strong sense of family embedded in those moments, a super fun crowd and lots of eye candy details to pair with an interesting venue.  My best wishes to David and Liz as they start their new life together!

As for some camera geekery, I can now also say that I absolutely love tent receptions - lighting is so easy - when the flash is bounced off of the roof of the tent, it is like a softbox that spills soft light everywhere.  I don't usually mention the gear that I've used on my posts, but since Liz is a rad film photographer herself, I thought I'd mention that I used Fuji400h and TMZ3200 mixed in with digital images from my Canon 5D.  Last, my sincerest thanks to the uber-talented Ryan Wilcox of You Look Nice Today Photography for letting me shoot this awesome wedding with him.  Cheers!
